It happened again. If it’s happened once, it’s happened a thousand times. Ok – not literally a thousand times, but it has happened quite often. The events surrounding it may be different, but the message is always the same.
Have you ever searched for something far and wide, only to find out that what you were looking for was actually in close proximity to you? For example, have you ever searched for your mobile phone, only to realize sometime later that you were holding the phone the whole time? Or turned your home inside-out searching for an important item, finally realizing the item had been in plain sight the whole time?
One recent it event that happened to me involved plans to purchase a full-size blender to make smoothies. A certain type of high-speed blender is needed to make smoothies smooth, some of which are pricey. Was I willing to pay the price? Kind of – for the sake of being healthy. My Bullet worked well, but I wanted a larger blender to make a higher quantity of smoothies to drink throughout the day.
I jumped on the internet to search for the type of blender that I needed and eventually clicked on a link that proclaimed to list the Top 15 (or some number) Smoothie Blenders. I scrolled through the most expensive blenders until something caught my eye near the bottom of the list. “Wait,” I thought to myself, “Is that the blender that’s sitting in my kitchen cabinet right now?” No – not the Bullet blender that I used to make my smoothies, but my other blender that has been sitting in my home for several years. “That blender is considered a top blender for making smoothies?” I jumped up, tried it out, and was immediately reminded of it.
You see, every time it happens, I am immediately reminded about how I sometimes search far and wide for answers to specific questions in life, when in fact the answers that I seek are already inside of me; that everything I am seeking I already have within me…or within close proximity – whether through a family member, friend, colleague, etc. I am not talking about the material things in life, but instead quality of life. Can you relate? Has this every happened to you?
These it moments of clarity tend to occur during a time when I need to refocus, for various reasons. The blender event, and every other time something similar has occurred, were the situations used to remind me – quit searching; relax; and know that I already have the answers that I need.
I love when life speaks those lessons to me.
